Where you'll be
Description
Located in the beautiful (and convenient!) Museum Hill district of Santa Fe, this 3,000-sq ft home contains everything you'd dream of for a perfect New Mexico vacation: comfortable sleeping quarters, homey fireplaces, and plenty of outdoor gathering spaces to complement all the indoor beauty. Remember the old song about having the sun in the morning and the moon at night? At Moonstar, you get both -- and at all hours of day and night! You'll love watching the sky change over the Sun and Moon Mountains. Sunrises, sunsets (uh-oh, another song!), and every other hour are magnificent here!
Set back from the road, this house is gorgeous from any angle. Step onto the flagstone front porch, admire the southwestern touches, and enter the gleaming great room, where your party will spend so much wonderful "downtime." Viga ceilings, long banks of windows, leather sofas (one of which unfolds into a queen-sized bed), a huge HDTV with DVD player, CD players and free Netflix. Additionally, southwestern art and artifacts, and a cozy kiva fireplace all stand ready to make your time here very special.
No doubt your group is hungry and thirsty after the journey, so use this excuse to explore the kitchen and dining areas of Moonstar. You will be delighted with the sparkling stainless-steel appliances in the kitchen, the wide selection of chef's tools and gadgets, and the fully stocked cabinets. Pots, pans, dishes, glasses, serving ware -- they are all here. Pick up some groceries and you are all set -- whether you're planning on serious home cooking or just using the coffeemaker, microwave, and blender for quick drinks and snacks!
And you will find nice places to enjoy your meals at Moonstar. Yes, the outdoors is tempting, but if you are kept inside, sit at the breakfast bar in the central island of the big kitchen, or pull up a chair at the sun-washed breakfast nook and dream away half an hour admiring the view while you dine. Or, when the whole gang is actually ready to sit down together, treat yourself to the dining room, with its double set of glass doors letting sun spill in, its dropped lighting, and its lovely works of art!
When it's time to turn in for the night, everyone will enjoy a great rest in the bedrooms at Moonstar. The master suite is particularly dreamy, with a king-sized bed beneath a handsome viga ceiling, with a kiva fireplace in one corner, lovely views, a flat-screen TV, and ceiling fan. The bath is its crown jewel: two separate vanities, an alcove for the commode, a fabulous soaking tub, and a walk-in shower. If Santa Fe weren't so beautiful and exciting, you might want to spend half your vacation in the master suite! (Oh well, you'll just have to come back soon!)
And the remaining three bedrooms all have luxe touches your party will appreciate. One contains a queen-size bed in a large room with a kiva fireplace, flat-screen TV, French doors to the portal, and big windows. Another, also with a queen-size bed and a bank of floor-to-ceiling windows, offers a glass door leading into the garden. And the third has a double bed, kiva fireplace, and big windows with a view of garden, trees, and sky.
There is plenty of bathroom space for everyone in your party at Moonstar -- even the two surprise guests sleeping on the foldout sofa (who will be raving about the views from their pillow, by the way; the living room is a fantastic place to wake up!). In addition to the master bath, two full bathrooms serve the bedrooms and common areas of the house: one offers both a shower and tub option, while the other has a large walk-in shower. So many choices, so little waiting during the let's-get-out-and-have-fun morning rush!
The outdoor spaces at Moonstar are as irresistible as the interior. The rooftop deck is the star, an enormous area with seating for plenty and unobstructed views in all directions. You may be forgiven for thinking you're the king of the world when you stand here, surveying mountains, valley, and sky!
The large garden here is wonderful to explore, with many separate spaces offering statuary, man-made ponds, landscaping, and other features. Of course, you may find that the best part is the wilderness, full of natural New Mexico vegetation and wildlife. (Bring your binoculars!) For more sedate enjoyment of the outdoors, the large portal surrounding several sides of the house offers a big kiva fireplace just made for cold mountain evenings, with plenty of seating and table space for al fresco dining. Sit here and chat long into the night, sharing memories and listening to the birds sing their final songs of the day. Another Moonstar memory has been made!
Reserve your stay here as soon as you can. This wonderful house does book up quickly, so choose your dates and start packing your bags!

Everything was wonderful. The house is just as expected, with incredible space, views, peace, and quiet. Our only hic-up was wi-fi, which wasn't working during our visit. The host helped us troubleshoot remotely and offered to send someone out, but we declined. And they offered us a small inconvenience refund for our troubles. All very professional, responsive, and reasonable. We'll be back.

Everyone enjoyed their stay here! Upon arrival, we got to experience the great desert yard and views from the rooftop patio. It's close to town and not far from the mountain for skiing. The family spent most of the time hanging in the large kitchen, sitting by the outside fireplace, and catching sun on the rooftop patio. The dogs loved the open space to run and explore, but bring your tweezers as there are tons of ground cacti and you'll be plucking needles from their paws and legs frequently. They loved it nonetheless! We also experienced about 12" of snow throughout most of our trip - it was so lovely! I don't know if this is particularly normal weather for Santa Fe or if we experienced a fluke winter storm. As other reviews have mentioned, the dishwasher is not great - it leaves a gritty white residue on everything that may be solved by using a simple rinse aid. The mattress in the master bedroom has a dip in it that was pretty uncomfortable. An additional gate opener would also be super convenient for larger groups. Those minor things aside, we all had a great time and agreed that we would definitely stay here again!

This place was truly beautiful and had great accommodations for large groups. We were so impressed with not only the cleanliness but simply the unique structure and amenities. The kitchen was extremely functional, having everything we needed to cook meals. The best part was the quiet neighborhood and ultimately the perfect location.
