Description for Windchaser
Set among towering Ponderosa pines, Windchaser is ideal for anyone longing to escape to a simpler way of life. This one-bedroom, pet-friendly cabin exudes time-honored charm. Yet while you may feel far removed from everyday life when you escape here, the cabin is actually quite close to the lakes, trails, galleries and other attractions of Ruidoso. In fact, you can walk to a number of restaurants and shops in just a few minutes.
Windchaser is one of 35 cabins that make up the Apache Village enclave. Built by a master carpenter in the late 1940s, they boast knotty pine walls, covered porches and a wealth of handcrafted details. Windchaser’s porch is furnished with a bistro table and chairs so you can start your morning sipping coffee amid the refreshing mountain breezes. Or end your evening here with a nightcap as owls call out to one another beneath the star-studded sky. And don’t be surprised if you see elk, deer or wild turkeys saunter past!
The interior of the cabin is just as delightful as its porch. The wood-burning stove warms up the room in a jiffy on brisk winter evenings, and the crackling of the logs only adds to the cozy ambience. There’s also an air-conditioner for steamy summer days. Kick back on the sofa and watch your favorite cable shows on the wall-mounted TV or set up your Scrabble board on the coffee table for a game night. The sofa, by the way, opens into a twin bed, enabling Windchaser to sleep up to three people (and up to two pets as well).
The living area includes a kitchenette with a mini fridge, stove/range, microwave and perhaps most importantly, a coffeemaker. If you catch any trout from the nearby lakes, you can barbecue them outside on Windchaser’s gas grill. If you don’t want to dine alfresco on the porch, sit down at the table for two by a corner of the living area—so romantic. And if you don’t want to cook at all, you can walk to Can’t Stop Smokin’ for barbecue, the Ranchers Steak and Seafood, Tina’s Cafe for breakfast or lunch and a myriad of other restaurants in 10 minutes or less. There’s even a Starbucks just a half-mile away.
When it’s time to call it a night, stretch out on the queen-size bed in Windchaser’s bedroom. The gentle breeze of the ceiling fan is certain to lull you to sleep. Just off the bedroom is the bathroom where you can enjoy a long, steamy shower. You’ll find plenty of towels and bedding waiting for you, and the bed will be perfectly made up by the time you arrive. So if you need to freshen up or nap after your travels, you can do so before you even unpack.
Rustic charm and cozy comfort aren’t the only reasons you’ll love relaxing at Windchaser. Perhaps its greatest advantage is its convenient location. We already mentioned that numerous restaurants and stores are less than a mile away. The cabin is also less than two miles from Grindstone Lake and Trail System, where you can fish, boat, hike, ride mountain bikes, ride horses and play disc golf. Alto Lake and Recreation Area is a 10-minute drive in the opposite direction; when you’re not fishing, you can explore the surrounding trails on foot, mountain bike or horseback. If golf is your sport, bring your clubs, as there are numerous courses nearby. And, of course, there’s skiing and snowboarding; you can drive to Ski Apache in just 40 minutes.
Windchaser proves that good things do indeed come in small packages. Book your stay today and get ready for an unforgettable getaway.
Please Note: Because this is mountain and snow country, vehicles with four-wheel drive and/or tire chains are strongly advised in winter.
If you are trying to book within 48 hours of arrival please call 575-258-5200 during business hours to make any last minute reservations.
