Description for Sunlit Hills Art and Views
One part art museum, one part resort, one part luxurious private home, this magnificent property boasts all the perks of outdoor living in the glorious foothills just minutes from downtown Santa Fe.
Sunlit Hills Art and Views is exactly what its name promises: a gorgeous home perched in the foothills of southern Santa Fe. Filled with an eclectic collection of superb paintings, sculpture, and other artwork, and boasting absolutely drop-dead views of the mountains and desert. Staying here is an unforgettable pleasure, so exciting that you may have to tear yourself away to visit all the sights of northern New Mexico you promised to see on your trip! No worries -- despite its remote location with 365-degree views, Sunlit Hills Art and Views is just 7 miles (10 minutes by car) from the Plaza in the heart of Santa Fe!
From the moment you step inside this house, you know you are in for a treat. Every room is decorated with original artwork, and no matter how long you stay here, you will find yourself discovering a new favorite piece almost every day. Enter the main living room (there is also a den) and find yourself among not only ultra-comfortable leather sofas and chairs, a crackling kiva fireplace, and jaw-dropping views, but also surrounded by sculptures and paintings to enjoy in the changing light from the big New Mexico sky. Your vacation is going to be a very special one.
Instead of exploring the rest of the house, you may find yourself going straight out to the deck from the sliding-glass doors in the living room. Now, there are many outdoor spaces at Sunlit Hills Art and Views, but this deck will probably be your go-to spot first thing in the morning when you are clutching your coffee cup and wondering how you slept so long and so deeply. From this deck, you can see 50 miles across the Rio Grande Valley to the mountains. It's a view you will never tire of, for it changes every time you look at it.
Force yourself back indoors and discover the second living area, a sun-filled den with a sprawling sectional sofa, big HDTV with DVD player (you have WiFi here, as well as cable TV and all the other electronics you could wish), and a big desk overlooking another world-class view. What a great place to work, whether your work is office-related or artistic!
And although you're just a hop, skip, and jump from downtown Santa Fe, you will probably want to do a little cooking at Sunlit Hills Art and Views. It's a good thing the kitchen is so enticing, with its stainless-steel appliances, cupboards packed with cookware and serving dishes, and granite countertops boasting coffeemaker, toaster, and more. There's a big breakfast bar here --more like a breakfast island, with seating for many! -- and beautiful pottery topping every cabinet.
Choose from several large tables at which to eat. The formal dining room is adjacent to the kitchen, in a sun-washed area beside sliders leading out to the deck. Watch the sun slowly set as you enjoy fresh produce from Santa Fe's farmer's market, then clear the plates and linger here over a round of Texas Hold 'em!
When it's time for bed, choose among 3 bedrooms here at Sunlit Hills Art and Views. The master suite is heavenly, featuring a king-sized bed and en-suite bath with Jacuzzi tub and handsome tiling.
The second bedroom offers a queen-sized bed and all the comforts of home, with access to the second full bathroom. And the third bedroom contains 2 twin beds. A third full bathroom means that everyone can shower and prepare in the morning without bumping elbows! And of course, all bed linens and bath towels are provided here, plus extras. You are always assured of a great night's sleep in this gorgeous mountain retreat!
The interior of Sunlit Hills Art and Views is only matched by the exterior spaces. There are so many areas around this home, you could hold a family reunion for dozens of people and never be short space! The big deck looking out toward the stone chiminea (with an adjacent tent for sun and snow protection) is only one of many, many areas you will count among your favorites. A picnic table overlooks the beautiful Chaparral, while a front patio with comfy loungers helps you to chase the sunshine across the sky. An open square paved in beautiful stone makes a fine place for any ceremony or meeting, while a volleyball court keeps the younger set happy during moments of downtime. Of course, there is a grill and a place for the whole crowd to dine together outdoors, too.
And then there's the big hot tub, set among trees for privacy, with an adjacent seating area. Enjoy the stars while soothing those tired ski muscles in hot, bubbly water! The hot tub is magnificent, the perfect place to end each day at Sunlit Hills Art and Views.
Do come stay at Sunlit Hills Art and Views very soon. You will admire the artwork, appreciate the luxurious appointments, and enjoy the convenience of a location that combines easy access to the city with unspoiled views of nature. Book today!

Reviews for Sunlit Hills Art and Views
Beautiful and comfortable house!
Beautiful and comfortable house! The only important thing is that you need a 4x4 vehicle to get there when it snows.
amazing daytime views, wonderful star-gazing at night!!!
Wow pretty much sums up our stay at Sunlit Hills. Beautiful property located southeast of town. The house was decorated with lovely artwork inside, and the outside was basically a sculpture garden on 2-3 acres. It was fun to wander all over the property looking at the amazing collection of sculptures.
While the artwork was outstanding, for us, the best part of staying at Sunlit Hills were the AMAZING VIEWS and star-gazing in the hot tub at night. The Milky Way was clearly visible every night, and we saw 10 meteors in one evening. The down side, it took forever to get anywhere because you always had to drive through the center of town. If we visit Santa Fe again, we will stay on the north side of town close to the bypass.
As for escaping the Texas heat to play golf in cooler weather, the temps weren't cooler than Dallas in early Sept. We'll probably head back to Ruidoso next year. The golf courses were beautiful though. We played Black Mesa, Towa (Buffalo Thunder), and Cochiti. Black Mesa was well-maintained, but husband said the fairways were a little tight/skinny. Towa was having watering issues, so not much fun there. Cochiti was our favorite!!! Stunning views, a well-maintained course, friendly people, and even though they were super busy, play hardly slowed down. We loved every minute!
The rental was enchanting, just like Santa Fe.
The art in and around this home is stunning, but the landscaping was even more impressive from the newly planted vineyard and apple orchard to the beautiful trees, flowers and plants that encircle the property. It was quiet and comfortable with beautiful furnishings. Having a full bath for each bedroom was a big plus. We tried to take advantage of all the outdoor seating areas, but there are too many. Our favorite time was enjoying sunset on the patio and making a fire in the cool fall evenings in the outside fireplace while we gazed at the stars. The hot tub was wonderful after a day of hiking. Every room has a spectacular view. The kitchen was well stocked. We loved that the property was outside of all the hussle and bussell of the city but still only minutes away by car. We hiked around the cave dwellings in Bandelier National Monument and took the Aspen Trail in the national forest. We were not ready to leave, and would stay here again when we return to Santa Fe. Booking the home, picking up and returning the keys was an easy process. When we had questions, the property management company was always just a phone call away. We were so pleased we picked this beautiful rental home for our stay in Santa Fe.
Cozy home filled with (and surrounded by) local art
Literally, the grounds surrounding the home are like an outdoor art museum. Very cool, and some kinetic sculptures among the installations which are laid among the grounds along paths and benches which are nice for viewing. The best beauty comes from the sunsets that are over the expansive Rio Grande valley. The view from the deck is pretty amazing, and if the weather is nice you'll want to spend lots of time outside. Bedrooms are pretty nice, along with bathrooms. Main area is open and nice for drinks or communing around meals. House is equipped with a host of dishware and utensils for hosting meals.
Location is unique but ultimately rewarding for both the tranquility of the area and the proximity to main sights. Museums were 5 min drive, Harry's Roadhouse is 3 min drive, downtown is just over 15 min. Very quiet as well. It is less than 1000 yards from the freeway, but we never once heard any noise from it at all. Very tranquil and remote feel, without being remote.
Only potential knock was that a few of the decor items and fixtures were a little dated or lightly used. Not modern finishes on a few things. It was appropriately priced as such, though, and if stainless steel and marble finishes aren't important to you (as they weren't to us) the beauty of the art and quality of the location will keep you very engaged and fulfilled!
